David W. Carter High School has been know for its rich history in football but has also had great alumnus such as DeWayne Scales '79, Michael Williams '92, Mark Sanford '92, Robert Washington '96, Tyrone Ellis '96, Anthony Goode '96, Lamar Wright '97, Jabari Johnson '97, Doward Evans '09, Adrain Jones '99, Kenneth Kelley '02, Steffon Wiley "02, Johnathan Walker '05, Michael Crabtree '04 and Cardell Hunter '05. Even though Michael Crabtree excelled on the football field he was a great basketball player on the hardwood. Ranked among the top 51 recruits in the state of Texas going into college. During a visit in 2004, Texas Tech basketball coach Bob Knight asked Crabtree which sport he was going to choose. Though the decision was not an easy one, he opted to play college football exclusively.

Below you will find just a few basketball stats of some Carter Cowboys who excelled at the game of basketball.

Coach Rob Wright is the only Head Basketball coach for Carter High School to send a team to the State Tournaments in 1995. The Carter Cowboys finished as the 1995-5A State Runner-Up. In 1992 Coach Wright was the Freshmen Coach and they finish there season (20-0). He was the 1st winning varsity head coach in school history.
